JPG uses lossy compression, which keeps file sizes small but discards some image detail every time the file is saved. Converting to PNG doesn't recover that lost detail, but it stops any further quality loss and gives you a format that supports transparency and is friendlier to sharp edges, text, and flat colors.

This is a common step before editing a photo in layers, placing it on a colored background, or using it in design software that expects a lossless source file. Expect the PNG to be noticeably larger than the original JPG — that's normal, since PNG doesn't throw away pixel data.

How it works

1

Upload

Choose or drop your image. Hirixo reads its actual format from the file itself, not the filename.

2

Convert

Pick a destination format. A background worker handles the conversion so the page never freezes.

3

Download

Save the result. Your original image was never sent anywhere — it stayed on this device the whole time.

Frequently asked questions

Will converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?

No. PNG is lossless from this point forward, but it can't restore detail the original JPG compression already discarded. The conversion simply stops further quality loss.

Why is my PNG file bigger than the JPG?

PNG doesn't use lossy compression, so it preserves every pixel exactly, which usually means a larger file than a JPG of the same image.

Does the converted PNG support transparency?

The PNG format supports transparency, but a converted JPG won't have any — JPG has no alpha channel to begin with, so there's nothing transparent to carry over.
